KEYTROLLER introduces our newest
generation SPEED SAVER device designed for forklifts. This
new design incorporates some great new enhancements including our TIRE-SAVER
and IDLE-SAVER - now as standard equipment. Designed to fit to any
make or model forklift with electronic throttles - this gives a forklift fleet
user the flexibility to set his own 2 top speeds, reduce idle time and to
increase his tire life by up to 400%.
This new generation SPEED
SAVER device has been designed to limit the travel speed of a forklift
truck with an electronically-operated throttle, by detecting that the truck is
traveling above a pre-set speed and then applying a top speed millivolt
restriction to limit the truck’s top speed. As long as the truck is traveling
below the pre-set speed, high engine RPM for heavy lifting is available and not
affected. Due to its ability to
give a proportional restriction (where if the speed begins to drop, the limit
is relaxed gradually), the climbing of gradients is not affected either.

SPEED-SAVER EL functions:
Top Speed Control with 2 Top Speed Settings: Designed specifically for forklift trucks, and incorporating proportional control, making it ideal for climbing inclines. Suitable for electronic throttle 'Drive By Wire' Tier 4 engine trucks, and can easily be adapted for conventional cable-throttle vehicles. Monitors road speed and applies engine throttle restriction as required to obtain the correct speed. As the truck slows down, the engine speed limit is removed to allow full power to the hydraulics.
- The unit can be programmed with two separate speeds and each speed setting can be triggered by various inputs like:
- Hydraulic weight sensor
- ZONTROLLER IR or Loop zone boundary sensor
- Directional control (lower speed in reverse than in forward)
- Key switch on dash where high and low speed is turned on/off by supervisor
TIRE-SAVER - now standard:
This prevents the driver abusing the truck by changing direction while still in motion, or selecting drive with high engine speed. The programmer sets vehicle speed and engine RPM set points in the device via free Windows software via a PC. If the operator changes direction and either the vehicle speed or engine RPM is above the set points - then the directional change DOES NOT take place. This forces the operator to apply the breaks to slow the machine and reduce engine RPM. When these set points are reached - directional change takes place. The use of the TIRE-SAVER option leads to a considerable decrease in tire wear and increase in tire life (depending on application and driver habits this feature can improve tire life by up to 400%). Besides reducing tire wear, the TIRE-SAVER protects the drive train/transmission from operator abuse by preventing drive unless the road speed and engine revs are below the pre-set limits. With the addition of an inching pedal switch, the clutch pack can also be protected from excessive wear in the same way.
Idle shutdown - now standard. When enabled, this automatically shuts down the engine if the truck is not being used. The length of time a truck can stand idle is adjustable to any value in seconds. Helps to reduce fuel or battery usage, and engine wear caused by excessive idle time, reducing service hours and preventing over-servicing.
The Control Unit obtains its road speed signal from the gear tooth speed sensor fitted over the crown gear on the drive axle - or the device can obtain the speed pulses from an OEM fitted speed sensor. If the fork lift truck is already fitted with a road speed sensor, dependent on the truck model, it is normally preferable to interface to this signal. When the road speed exceeds the threshold set within the Control Unit the limiter is activated. In this condition the engine output is restricted to provide only sufficient torque to maintain the limited speed, i.e. the road speed is maintained even when driving up a slope, release the pedal to reduce speed.
This generation of digital road speed limiter is pre-configured and is adjusted using our free setting software and Windows PC. Only authorized truck engineers can gain access to the unit’s settings. To facilitate the installation and fitting of the SPEED-SAVER EL device - be sure to include your make and model forklift because we offer a number of pre-made "plug and play" harnesses for many of the fork lift trucks which use drive by wire throttle systems.
SPEED SAVER EL kit comprises the following as core items:
- The Control Unit.
- The relevant cable harnesses (if make/model forklift is included with order)
- Fitting equipment.
- Installation manual.
- Software Disc or Stick
- An itemized list of all the parts supplied.
In addition to the core items the kit supplied may also include:
- Magnetic pick up (MPU) speed sensor.
- Loose Deutsch connectors for fitting to the trucks harness.
- Mounting brackets for either the MPU or the Control Unit.
- Bespoke interconnection documentation which could include guidance installation photos and truck specific schematic diagrams.
- Prior to fitting please ensure, using the itemized parts list, that all the components are present.
KEYTROLLER also offers our older generation SPEED-SAVER designed for older cable throttle type accelerators.
